An appreciation of Pete Seeger's music and work on his 86th birthday, May 3, 2005.

Events are planned throughout the country on or around May 3 to honor Pete's music and all Pete has done and is doing in so many ways to help make this a better world.

If you'd like to be a part of this nationwide outpouring of appreciation and affection, this is the place to find out what is happening near you, or for you to let everyone know about an event that you would like to coordinate.

We encourage events to be free and open to the public where possible.

It was a great celebration -- this site is now closed until next year!

Celebration Benefit Concert for Sunset Hall dedicated to Pete Seeger on the occasion of his 86th Birthday!

Sunday, May 15, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. at Paramount Studios, 5555 Melrose Avenue at Windsor Avenue, Los Angeles.

Pete Seeger's birthday on May 3rd will be celebrated across the United States with special concerts and events. Sunset Hall is particularly indebted to Pete and his grandson Tao Rodriguez for the incredible benefit concert they performed in 1989 that kicked off the rebirth of Sunset Hall, during that time when our future was in doubt. But more than that, Pete has given the world a lifetime of people's music that has invigorated our movement, raised our spirits, focused our attention and brought a sense of community to all of us. From the Almanacs to the Weavers to his concerts far and wide, and his writings, and support of peace, justice and social progress... his life continues as a beacon of independent thinking and engagement with the affairs of the world. Just what sunset Hall is all about! On Sunday the 15th we will sing songs to honor Pete and his tremendous contribution to our lives and our world. THANK YOU, PETE!

Featured performers: Ross Altman, "Uncle Ruthie" Buell, Roger Nolan, Roy Zimmerman, comedy recreations of Bostwick & Braude, Voices of Conscience of the Workmen's Circle...and more!
